On My Nails

I'm loving the hot pink/neon trend for spring/summer.
Its like living in the 80s...but more classy!

I don't know why blogger is being weird with my pictures....it randomly decides to rotate them and won't upload it normally no matter how many times I re-do it. Whatever.
On my nails currently is Essie - Status Symbol.
Its a very fun vibrant hot pink. Definitely not neon. The formula was odd. It wasn't really a creme..but not really a jelly. Reminds me of the OPI sorbets but creamier.
Took 2 coats. And yes...I can see all the scratch marks on my nails. I have NO idea what I do while I'm sleeping...but it seems to have something to do with scratching my nails.

I got a pedicure recently (always important for summer time!) and was intrigued by this OPI color.
Its called Don't Know....Beets Me. I have never seen it in stores. Nail salons always seem to have hidden gems. Its a hot magenta. Took a picture with my fingernails for comparison. Its darker and more "hot".
Both fun colors.

Nail of the Day

I'm a HUGE fan of nail art.

I love both the crazy Japanese style nail art and even the other popular styles like minx, foils, french tips, etc.
Lately I've been on a kick where I've been looking at nail blogs for inspiration. There are just so many creative people out there! It blows my mind!

So here's just a little something small I did last night to my nails that I'm loving right now!

So basically its just pastel purple polish as my base. My ring finger has a konad design on it and a rhinestone to jazz it up a little. Originally..that was it. But then earlier today I felt like going a step further so I freehanded the french tips with some silver polish on the remaining nails that were bare.
Ta-da! So simple!

 

Here are the polishes I used! I have quite a few of the art deco polishes. They come in a LOT of colors (even glitters like silver&gold) and are cheap. I buy them at my local Dollar Tree for $1 each. I really hate that all nail design polishes have REALLY long brushes. I feel like it doesn't help me control the polish as well. There has to be a reason why they do this though right?
The pastel purple color is from Essence which are usually $1 at Ulta. I love their mini size and they come in really great shades! Most $1 polishes have glitter in them and that really annoys me..but the Essence ones don't. Thumbs up!

Daily Polish

Sorry for the lack of posts!
I had to work extra hours this week making me super exhausted!

Anyway, last night I decided to do my nails and I like it so much that I thought I would share!

I am predicting that sky blue is going to be a huge color this spring/summer season. Let's see if it comes true!

I bought this nail polish (along with a beige/brown one) randomly while buying some clothes. The color popped out at me. I especially love that there is no glitter or shimmer. Usually I find that cheap nail polishes tend to add glitter/shimmer because it makes the color prettier. Making a pretty creme nail polish is tough stuff.
For $2.80 I was willing to take the plunge and try out Forever 21 nail polish.
I found NO application problems! The brush was good too (not streaky)! Normally I apply just 1 thick layer of polish. If its too sheer then I'll add another coat. This polish wasn't really sheer though.
Color is called "dusty blue". I don't know if you can find it in stores...but worth a try! I've seen a lot of other pretty colors too!

I also wanted to rave about 2 other nail products that I can't live without.

For some reason my nails are ALWAYS chipping and I never could grow them out because they were too weak. I do own some other Sally Hansen treatment polish that's supposed to "strengthen" my nails and another that's supposed to make them grow faster..but both were failures.
Then on a trip to Walmart I spotted this polish for only $2. I figured I would try it out and see if it works.
Much to my surprise...it is AMAZING!
Not only do my nails not chip or feel weak...but this treatment polish doesn't peel off which I find my other Sally Hansen treatments are prone too.
I'm SOOO glad I purchased this! For only $2 too!!!

Now that I find myself applying a new polish shade every 3-4 days or so..I find that quick drying drops are seriously a necessity.
I am SUPER impatient when it comes to applying polish. I cannot wait for it to dry and I ALWAYS end up messing up or getting blanket/hair/etc. marks allll over.
These quick drying drops I bought in Korea from the company Aritaum (for $3) is the answer to my impatience.
You apply 1-2 drops on top of the nail after the top coat to help speed up drying.
They don't magically dry your nails..but they cut down the time by A LOT.
I know Essie and OPI both make drying drops and if you are like me I highly recommend drying drops!

Nail Dotting Tool

I love decorating my nails. Flowers, rhinestones, patterns, colors, etc.
I don't know why it took my so long, but I finally bought dotting tools to help with my decorating!

thumb is still hurt...don't mind the bandaid.

I bought these on ebay (I buy a lot on ebay.....) for only $2.20 with free shipping.
They are a set of 5 and each pen is double sided. As you can see, each end has a rounded tip with a different size.

Dotting tools are not only used for polka dots, but you make flowers and there's even a pen that doesn't have a rounded tip so that you can just straight up draw something.
Pretty awesome for the price.
I can already feel my creative juices flowing.....all the possibilities!

When I first got my tools (took about 8 days since it shipped from China) I decided to test them out using whatever nail polish was around me.

The dotting tools are sooo easy to use and so cheap I recommend them to everyone!

Wet n Wild Party of Five Glitters

When I first heard about Deborah Lippmann nail polishes..I was super intrigued.
They are nail polishes PACKED with GIANT glitters.
I love nail polishes that are something more than just...color.

I was most interested in this color: Happy Birthday
Its supposed to remind you of birthday confetti.
The cost of Deborah Lippmann nail polishes are just too much so I never really actually considered buying one.
Luckily, drugstore brand Wet n Wild came out with a dupe!

This shade is called Party of Five Glitters. Now, I don't own the Lippmann shade, but from the swatches I have seen this is prettttty darn close!
There are large multi colored hexagon glitters and small multi hexagon glitters that give this bad boy crazzzzy colors.
The colors I spot are red, magenta, silver, blue, green, and gold.

As always...sorry for my ugly cuticles and poor nail polish job.
As a base to bring out the full effect of the glitters I used Urban Outfitters nail polish in Nude (which I DO NOT recommend).
As for the formula of Party of Five glitters....I found it to be very difficult to use. Because the glitters are sooo big, the nail polish itself is very thick and goopy.
I had to use at least 3 coats to get a really good amount of glitter on each nail. Considering I used base coat and 3 layers of the nude polish..that's over 9 layers of nail polish on my nails!
I personally think the more layers of the glitter nail polish = the better it looks.

I bought this nail polish for $.99 (usually its $1.99) and I think its a pretty cool nail polish to add to your stash.
The whole giant glitters thing does kind of feel like its a nail polish meant for kids...but its so festive and fun!
If you spot it...pick it up and let it bright up your nails and day!

Milani 3D Holographic Nail Polish in Cyberspace

Thanks to work I'm not allowed to rock crazy colors...but when I find a nail polish subtle enough in color but crazy in effects...I'm ALL over it!

Holographic nail polishes are definitely popular. They have been for maybe the past 3 years in my opinion. China Glaze and OPI make the best ones...but since they are sooo coveted you could be spending more than $20 on them. Plus they are RARE!
So when I heard that Milani (a drugstore brand) came out with their line of holographic nail polishes...I jumped at the opportunity.




First let me say...I do NOT take care of my cuticles. So yes they are VERY ugly and hideous..I know.
Second...if you are going to say "why the tip wear?"...that's because I put NO top coat on and its been 3 days since I've been wearing this color.

Aside from that...isn't the color and glitter absolutely gorgeous? I love looking at my nails!
The effect is way better in sunlight.

The one thing I did not like about this formula is that it was sheer. To achieve the best effect you need 2-3 coats. From what I've seen of the OPI and China Glaze ones...they are a 1 coat wonder.
Also you can do Konad with them (nail art) but with the Milanis you cannot.

I guess there are pros and cons to everything right?
The Milani ones are much easier to find and cheaper ($4.99 if i remember...).

Now its time for me to go out in the sun and stare at my nails some more :)
